Frequently asked questions

Answers about learning and teaching on Hamia Education Model, from joining your first class to getting paid as a teacher.

Getting started

Creating a student account is free, and a student's first class is full access, including live video. Starting with the second class, access steps down to encourage upgrading to a paid class or course, while text based access never goes away. Paid classes and courses are priced individually by the teacher, above a real minimum Hamia sets for that class.

A teacher applies, gets verified, and creates a class as self paced sessions, live audio, or live video, with a course code or a marketplace listing students can join. Hamia Education Model generates assignments and marking schemes from the class content and can grade student submissions automatically. Students browse the course marketplace, join with a code, or buy direct access to a class, with progress and attendance tracked for every session they attend.

There are three ways. Buy a seat from a course's page in the course marketplace, enter a course code your teacher shared with you, or redeem a gift code. A course code only finds the class. It is never a password or a login.

No. On a paid course's page, or on a teacher's own payment link, you can pay as a guest with just your email. After payment you get an access code or link by email, then you create or sign in to your free account with that same email to open the course, save your progress, and submit work.

Classes and learning

Every class is one of three formats: a self paced session guided step by step, a live audio session, or a live video session with a real waiting room the teacher controls. Teachers set their own schedule, from a single class to a full term, and Hamia Education Model computes a real minimum price for the class based on the format and how many sessions it actually runs.

Live video classes run with the camera on for both the teacher and the student, and they are not open to students under 18. That is a safety rule.

Automatically, from the sessions you actually take part in, not from a list someone ticks by hand. You can see your own attendance and progress for every class you are enrolled in from your dashboard.

Your teacher sets assignments for the class, and you type and submit your answer on the class page. A submission can be graded automatically, and your teacher always sees that grade and can adjust it. You can download your assignments and graded work as a PDF.

No. Hamia Education Model's assistant can explain the material again, simplify a concept, give a hint, or ask a guiding question. It never gives the answer to a graded question or writes any part of a submission for you.

Languages

A teacher chooses which languages a class is offered in, from the 13 languages Hamia Education Model can teach in: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin/Chinese, Yoruba, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and Turkish. If a class offers more than one, you are asked which you prefer before it starts, and your choice is remembered for that class.

No. In a live audio or video class your teacher teaches in their own language, and that speech is never translated or interpreted live. In a self paced AI Tutor class, the whole session is taught in the language you chose, so two students in the same course can each learn in a different language.

Yes. You can answer in the language you are learning the course in. Your teacher always sees your original answer first, with a clearly labeled translation beside it in the language they grade in.

Payments and access

A gift code gives someone access to a course. It can be bought with money, or with Hamia Points on the Rewards page, and the person who receives it redeems it to join the class.

Hamia Points are a learning reward you earn on Hamia Education Model, alongside achievements and referrals on the Rewards page. You can use them there, for example to gift a course. They are never exchangeable for money.

For teachers

Joining as a teacher is free. Hamia takes a 40 percent commission on paid classes on the free Regular tier, or 30 percent on the $99 per month Premium tier, which also raises how many classes you can run each month and speeds up your payout. Regular teachers still get a real, bounded free allowance for AI generated class reviews and assignments each month, not a one time trial.

Apply from Teach on Hamia. The application checks your identity and your resume, asks for a live selfie that is matched against a government ID, and asks for a short intro video. Applications are approved by automated review or by a member of the Hamia team.

It is for a teacher who already has their own students. Instead of charging each student, the teacher pays one flat price for the whole class, in a band of 5 to 10, 10 to 15, or 15 to 20 seats, and invites students with a code for each seat. Those students are not charged again through Hamia.

Payouts go through Paystack, Flutterwave, or Stripe Connect depending on the teacher's country, or through a manual PayPal, Wise, or crypto payout set up in Settings. Regular teachers are paid out after 14 days and Premium teachers after 3.
